LYNNE COHEN - The six photographs by Lynne Cohen in this exhibition date from the 70′s, 80′s and early 90′s.The black and white gelatin silver prints depict as their titles suggest a Classroom, Recording Studio, Laboratory, Lobby, Police Range and Model Living Room. Humour permeates most of Cohens works, but especially these earlier photographs. David Byrne said it best in the foreword he wrote for the book Occupied Territories, photographs by Lynne Cohen, ”First thing I noticed was that a lot of them are a little bit funny. Funny in a kind of creepy way. It’s kind of creepy because the world we have built for ourselves is the result of scientific logic and rational thinking taken to ridiculous extremes. It’s one vision of a perfect world”.

SYLVIE READMAN - The recent works by Sylvie Readman refer directly to the book, L’hiver de force à pas perdus, by Réjean Ducharme 1973. (Translated in English as Wild to Mild by Robert Guy Scully). The 7 black and white ink jet prints by Readman represent the places imagined in 1973 by the author Réjean Ducharme. Readman re-visited places in Montreal inspired from the book by Ducharme and made this series of photographs. With excerpts of the book printed below each image, we are invited to imagine scenes with the two main characters Nicole and André Ferron and where these scenes took place.
